Narrative-Driven Online Escape Game Puzzle
OVERVIEW
As a working student at House of Tales Berlin, I contributed to developing an online escape game inspired by one of their physical escape rooms. In this game, players step into the shoes of triad member When De, solving puzzles to complete his mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES
I played a pivotal role in shaping the game’s narrative and designed the majority of its puzzles. A key challenge was ensuring that every puzzle aligned perfectly with the narrative, theme, and gameplay mechanics. Additionally, I developed and implemented a comprehensive hint system that provides players with helpful clues in every scene. I also assembled the entire game in the Quingame Editor.
REFLECTION
Participating in the complete development cycle, which included planning, implementation, polishing, reworks, and release, was an invaluable experience. I enhanced my communication and time management skills by overcoming various challenges, and the playtesting phase taught me the importance of adapting to unexpected player behaviors. Overall, this project was both a rewarding and educational journey that deepened my understanding of both game design and the entire game development cycle.
